Honoring a Legacy, Empowering the Future

The Bryan Brown Foundation was established in the wake of a tragic loss that deeply impacted the Tohono O’odham Nation. On August 27, 2020, Tohono O’odham Nation Police Officer Bryan Brown was killed in the line of duty while responding to a call at the Desert Diamond Casino near Why, Arizona. With nearly 20 years of dedicated service, he was just four months away from retirement when he made the ultimate sacrifice.
Founded to honor his legacy, the Bryan Brown Foundation focuses on prevention and intervention, equipping Native American youth with essential civic and life skills.
Bryan was more than an officer—he was a mentor, a leader, and a champion for his community. He deeply understood the importance of community policing and dedicated much of his career to supporting and guiding Tohono O’odham youth, especially during his time as a School Resource Officer. His influence extended beyond his duties, often spending his personal time mentoring and uplifting young individuals.
Bryan believed in guiding the next generation toward success, a mission that his close friend and colleague, Julian Garcia, now carries forward as Program Director and Founder of the Bryan Brown Foundation. Under Julian’s leadership, the foundation provides youth with leadership training, mental wellness initiatives, and hands-on experiences in law enforcement and emergency services—ensuring Bryan’s impact continues for future generations.
The Bryan Brown Foundation continues Bryan’s mission by fostering leadership and youth development, inspiring interest in careers in public service, and addressing the pressing mental health challenges faced by many Native youth today. Through outreach events, including community gatherings and the Bryan Brown Youth Academy, the foundation creates a nurturing environment where young people can thrive, grow, and build a brighter future for themselves and their communities.
